Jokinen, Hamburg: Recalling city history - in whose name? Colonial monuments, Participative Plastic and politics
The participatory project afrika-hamburg.de of the visual artist Jokinen was a catalyst for a controversial and highly emotional public discussion about the colonial history of the city of Hamburg. The sculpture park Szoborpark in Budapest inspired the artist in her further project called Park Postkolonial in the Harburg area of Hamburg – a central district of the former colonial trade. The proposal was immediately rejected by the city parliament. Now she works together with the group Hamburg postkolonial which is planning an art network project to reflect the memorial topographies in European capitals and the former colonies.
